In term of research, the Department of Animal Science organized the research related with animal production and animal nutrition. Currently the department is conducting the research related with farm management and reducing feed cost for animal production. In addition, the Department of Animal Science is training the students by using nutrition lab and equipment to measuring nutrient contents of the feedstuff and back-fat thickness of pig. The department is planning to conduct research programs for advanced animal husbandry practices which are useful and practically applicable for the livestock farmers. Moreover, the University of Veterinary Science and the Department of Animal Science has initiated a separate program to produce BASc degree holder i.e. “Animal Science Specialization” in 2014-15 academic year. To this program, 150 students are accepted every year and trained as Animal Science degree holders. These Animal Science degree holders will contribute fulfilment of food requirement of the country through livestock production and for their family income as private livestock farm owners.
